When you chose The Garage to service your vehicle you are choosing to support a locally owned family business. We genuinely strive to create a relationship with each of our clients and are humbled by the trust they place in us. We recognize that it is rarely convenient to have a mechanical breakdown. This is why we offer free local shuttle service, free Wifi, after hours drop off/pickup, online scheduling, a comfortable & clean lobby, and same day repairs whenever possible. Integrity, excellence, honesty, trust, community, humility; are all words that we want to describe our staff and service at The Garage. Over the years we have implemented several programs to aid in this such as our nationwide 30/30 ANYWHERECARE warranty, and our Charity of the Month. Giving back to programs, schools, and charities right here in our community is a priority at The Garage. So please look around our website. Check out our charities, learn more about our warranty, look at our reviews on Facebook and Google. They all paint the same picture. The Garage is a business that cares about its clients and invests in its community. When you chose The Garage you can trust that you will be treated with respect and integrity.
Sincerely,
Richard Roberts founded The Garage in 2005 because he simply wanted a shop that he would feel comfortable sending his wife, sister, or mother too; a true old-fashioned garage that could be trusted in the community. Richard grew up right here in Birmingham where he started and ran a successful computer software business in our city for over 20 years until he sold it in 2002. Richard and his wife Sandra have three grown children and 5 grandchildren. Richard retired in 2015 and unfortunately passed away in 2022. He leaves behind a legacy of loving his family and Jesus well. He lived to serve others and will be greatly missed.
Bob Carter is a native of Birmingham and started with Richard at The Garage about a week before it opened in 2005. Bob, along with his wife Greta, graduated with a degree in business management from Samford University in 2004. He is an ASE certified master technician as well as ASE certified service consultant. Bob and Greta purchased The Garage from Richard in 2013 and look forward to continuing its legacy of great customer service. They have four children, Sam, Grey, Bo, Charli, and a puppy named Macon. They attend The Church at Brook Hills and enjoy spending quality time together as a family. Bob loves to coach soccer through Briarwood soccer club and serves on the board at Lifeline Children Services.
Justin is an ASE Certified Master Technician and is responsible for many of our larger repairs. Engine replacements, Internal Engine Repairs, Air Conditioning Service, etc. Justin is extremely laid back, yet a very hard worker. He is often one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. We regularly have to stop him and remind him to eat lunch! Justin and his wife have 3 children and are members at The Church of Brook Hills.
Jason started with The Garage in January of 2016 and serves as our General Manager. His family and Bob’s family have been friends for over 20 years. He and his wife Michelle have 3 daughters, and 2 granddaughters. Jason and his family spent several years in ministry, including serving as missionaries to the Dominican Republic for over three years. Jason is an avid car guy and enjoys all things racing! He also has a passion for people and serves as an elder at Grace Fellowship Church in Homewood. He is grateful to be a part of the team at The Garage, helping to meet the auto repair needs of the Birmingham area.
John has been with our team since 2016 and serves as our lead diagnostician and shop foreman. He has a passion for cars and a passion for music. He is a savant of sorts. If it has strings, he can play it. He once explained to us that he built a harp out of shoestrings and plastic irrigation pipes. There are no pictures to prove it…but we tend to believe him. He spent approximately 5 years at a Ford dealership before joining our team. He has countless pages of awards and certifications from Ford. It’s a real joy to have John on our team. John and his wife are excited to have just purchased a new home and welcomed the birth of their new daughter.
Ken Mackey is one of our service writers and will usually be one of the smiling faces you see when you arrive in our lobby. He is a native to the Birmingham area and has been in the automotive industry for over 20 years including both service and parts sales. He and his wife Paula have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. They are active members of Church of the Highlands in Alabaster. Bob and Mackey have known each other for over a decade and we are excited to have him finally be a part of our growing business.
Robert is the newest office guy to join our team. Robert came on board with us in 2019. He and Mackey worked together at a nearby dealership for about 5 years. He is always happy and always smiling. Robert is definitely…”the fun guy” at our shop. Robert is a native of Birmingham as well. He and his wife have two small children and attend a local catholic church.
Matt has been with us a little over a year now. He’s a Birmingham native with 15+ years’ experience at a local shop working on a variety of vehicles. Matt has a daughter that he loves spending time with and a drift car…that he also loves spending time with. We’re grateful to have him be a part of our team.
If there is anything good that came from covid…it was Thomas. For nearly three years we tried to hire him away from his former employer, but no such luck. He finally came aboard though and couldn’t be happier. Thomas serves as our oil and maintenance technician. He has an awesome attitude and makes working here such a joy. He and his wife have three children and enjoy spending time together as a family. Thomas enjoys all things MOPAR and muscle cars. We had the privilege of surprising him with a new/used car after his was totaled in an accident. It was one of the highlights of my career to see his gratitude and excitement.
Every shop needs an energizer bunny, right?! JL is ours. He’s always on time, always smiling, and genuinely happy to be a part of our business. He loves vintage cars and motorcycles and is in the process of restoring an old classic at his home.
Richie is our newest service writer. He and Robert share front counter and phone duties. He’s a native of the Birmingham area and has years of experience as both technician and a service writer. He loves smoking up some BBQ for his friends and family as well as spending time with his two children.
"Being a single female, it is so easy to feel as though you are being taken advantage of when dealing with auto repair businesses and dealerships. I can honestly say this is definitely NOT the case with The Garage. Bob and the others there are truly a blessing to our community and it is so nice to know you are dealing with honest, Christian people who you can trust."
