Richard Roberts founded The Garage in 2005 because he simply wanted a shop that he would feel comfortable sending his wife, sister, or mother too; a true old fashioned garage that could be trusted in the community. Richard grew up right here in Birmingham where he started and ran a successful computer software business in our city for over 20 years until he sold it in 2002. He is an active member at Shades Mountain Independent Church in bluff park. Richard and his wife Sandra have three grown children and 5 grandchildren. They enjoy RV’ing and spending time with their grandkids. Richard retired in 2015 but is still a frequent visitor of the shop.
Bob Carter is a native of Birmingham and started with Richard at The Garage about a week before it opened in 2005. Bob, along with his wife Greta, graduated with a degree in business management from Samford University in 2004. He is an ASE certified master technician as well as ASE certified service consultant. Bob and Greta purchased The Garage from Richard in 2013 and look forward to continuing its legacy of great customer service. They have four children, Sam, Grey, Bo, Charli, and a puppy named Macon. They attend The Church as Brook hills and enjoy spending quality time together as a family.
Rian has been with The Garage since the first week it opened as well. Rian is ASE certified and is our shop foreman. He oversees all our technicians and repairs, as well as inspects every single vehicle that comes in for repair so as to ensure a consistent process and quality control. He is a native of Birmingham where he and his wife have 3 children. Rian excels at electrical repairs and diagnostics. He is great at thinking outside the box when the repair necessitates. His expansive knowledge of all things mechanical has been a huge asset to The Garage. Rian is an avid hunter and enjoys spending time in nature.
Ronnie has been with The Garage since 2007. We initially hired Ronnie to fill in for a “B” level technician that had recently left our shop, but quickly realized that Ronnie had greatly undersold his skill set during the interview process. Both Ronnie and Rian are capable of handling just about any repair needs that our customers may have. Their personalities and skill sets compliment each other well. Ronnie and his wife Sherry enjoy camping and traveling to the mountains…or as Sherry would say…any where there is snow on the ground.
Jason started with The Garage in January of 2016. His family and Bob's family have been friends for over 15 years. He and his wife Michelle have 3 daughters. Jason and his family spent several years in ministry, including serving as missionaries to the Dominican Republic for three years. Their oldest daughter, Brittney is married and just recently gave birth to their second granddaughter. Their middle daughter Kaelyn is a student at Covenant College in Chattanooga and Marli is a senior in high school. Jason is grateful to be a part of the team and The Garage, helping to meet the auto repair needs of the Birmingham area.
John is a savant of sorts. If it has strings, he can play it. He once explained to us that he built a harp out of shoe strings and plastic irrigation pipes. There are no pictures to prove it...but we tend to believe him. John is young but has a lot of practical training and experience. He spent approximately 5 years at a Ford dealership before joining our team. He has countless pages of awards and certifications from Ford. Its a real joy to have John on our team. He assists Rian with most of our diagnostics and repairs.
Shawn is like our own personal giant. He's about 6'5" and can open or lift anything we need open or lifted :). He came to us from a local dealership in town and is a pleasure to have in the shop. He always has a smile on his face and is genuinely grateful to call The Garage his home.
George is our most recent addition. Our business has continued to grow each year and we've added George to the team to help handle the increased growth. He is responsible for most of our maintenance services. George previously worked with John at another establishment and the two are great friends, which is an added bonus.
